LASIK Vision Correction

Blade Free Laser Vision Correction

LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is a surgical procedure intended to reduce a person’s dependency on glasses or contact lenses. The procedure permanently changes the shape of the cornea, the clear covering of the front of the eye, using an excimer laser.

In traditional LASIK, a blade, called a microkeratome, is used to cut a hinged-flap in the cornea. The flap is folded back revealing the stroma, the middlesection of the cornea, and allows for treatment with an excimer laser system. The laser vaporizes a portion of the stroma — correcting your vision — and the flap is replaced.

With Blade Free Laser Vision correction, the IntraLase FS is used in place of the microkeratome. This computer-controlled, precision laser creates the flap, resulting in a safer procedure.
